FBC Edmonton seeks Senior Minister

FBC Edmonton seeks Senior Minister

First Baptist Church Edmonton is a robustly Christian and radically welcoming Church located in the downtown of one of Canada’s largest and most dynamic cities, Edmonton, Alberta. With the departure of our Senior Minister after more than 16 years of highly respected service, we are now seeking a new Senior Minister.

About Our Church

First Baptist Church Edmonton has a long and rich history of serving its congregation and the wider community. We seek the peace and well-being of the city, stand against oppression, and welcome those who have had difficult or traumatic histories with institutional religion. We affirm all of God’s children as they are, with Indigenous reconciliation and LGBTQ+ inclusion as core commitments.

Our Worship and Leadership

We follow a liturgical style of worship, incorporating traditional Christian music and thoughtful, Scripture-based preaching. As a Baptist church governed by Baptist polity, we seek to shape our future within these traditions.

Recently, we made the decision to leave our denomination to affirm and include all of God’s children. This decision, along with the values that led to it, is not open for reconsideration.

The Role of Senior Minister

We seek a collaborative leader who will provide strong spiritual guidance, support the congregation in its journey, and help identify and fulfill our mission priorities. The Senior Minister will:

  • Offer insightful spiritual leadership and formation
  • Foster consensus-building among staff and congregation
  • Provide pastoral care and support
  • Engage with diverse communities, including Indigenous reconciliation efforts
  • Work within a Baptist governance context

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Ordination as a Christian Minister
  • Eligibility for accreditation with the Canadian Association for Baptist Freedoms
  • A strong personal commitment to Christian beliefs
  • Familiarity with Baptist governance, traditions, and distinctives
  • A theological education (Seminary, Divinity, or related field preferred)
