First Baptist Church, Edmonton, is a Christian community in the Baptist tradition, celebrating together our life as the people of the living God.
As a people, we worship God together, hear and study scripture, teach, learn, serve, sing, pray and play. We aim to use our time, money, resources, gifts and talents to serve Jesus Christ and our neighbours near and far. By honouring one another, welcoming strangers, and praying for friends and enemies, we strive to live in such a way that we are a sign of God’s shalom (peace and well-being) in the city of Edmonton and beyond, a prophetic witness to God’s coming reign of wholeness and peace.
We celebrate and express our identity, purpose and mission through: liturgical worship; the use of the arts in worship and celebration; teaching and learning for all ages; intergenerational worship, celebrations, activities and ministries; Bible studies and other small groups; service projects within and beyond the church; participation in the work of local social ministries such as the Mustard Seed Edmonton, E4C, Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (ESL programs); participation in the work and ministries of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada and Canadian Baptist Ministries; support of global work (our partnership with the Bolivia Baptist Union).
We pray that the life of God will be visible through us in all that we do together in the name of Jesus Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit.
